ETF Strategy Japan Strategy Briefing
Thursday 09th November '17
As the world’s second largest developed market economy and the number two constituent of the important MSCI ACWI and FTSE All-World benchmarks, Japan plays an important role in any globally diversified portfolio – and now perhaps more so than ever.
After two ‘lost decades’, the Asia-Pacific giant has reasserted itself on investors’ radars following a radical transformation of economic policy and structural reform. Japan’s equity markets have been reinvigorated, with the Nikkei 225 Index more than doubling and tens of billions of dollars flowing into ETFs linked to the country.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's victory in the recent snap general election means the policies of 'Abenomics' – monetary easing, fiscal stimulus and structural reforms – will now likely shape the country’s future until well beyond the 2020 Olympic Games. All this increases the need for considered analysis and perspective, which our Japan Strategy Briefing aims to provide.
